Looking at their succession planning they wish to appoint a Development Director for the business.
The Development Director will lead the development & delivery of the product strategy covering all aspects from new products to ensuring excellent customer experience of existing products. They will have overall responsibility for the technical design, development & delivery of a platform, applications & services for the business to sell & operate.
The company’s software services platform is a key business resource providing competitive advantage & you will be responsible for maintaining & growing its capability in line with agreed business objectives & resource constraints.
You will also be responsible for the technical operation of the software cloud services & corporate IT infrastructure.
Play a key role as a member of the senior management team in setting & achievement of key technology & business objectives
Work closely with the Product Director to develop the product roadmap, ensuring full alignment to market place, competitive landscape & consumer demand.
Own the delivery of the product roadmap & strategy
Ensure effective operations of the company’s IT/OT services & environment, leveraging cloud technology where appropriate
Ensure team skills are developed in line with latest thinking & current / future product demands including effective software design, development & delivery capability
Lead development team ensuring all have clear objectives aligned to group plans with consideration of building talent & succession plans
Ensure team is organised to efficiently deliver on project & roadmap deliverables, measuring & continuously improving effectiveness
Select & build appropriate tools for the software development, delivery & operation
Maintain appropriate software engineering |& test processes for build & delivery of the company’s software
Build & run a QA function to quality assure the products & services
Research & develop appropriate new technological capability
Actively seek patent protection for inventions & build a patent portfolio
Work with academic institutions to ensure the products & services are built upon sound, research‐based learning
Competition and Market
Maintain a good working knowledge of the cleantech & renewables market
Maintain a good working knowledge of competitive offerings
Work closely with sales functions in the pitching of the company’s capability, platform & services
Work on specific bids & sales propositions to define the technological solution, including costing options
Be the strategic technical point of contact for key relationships
Provide input to the annual budget cycle & development of the company business plan
Be accountable for the management product development & team budgets
Experienced IT leader with a proven track record of delivery of commercially successful products & services
Knowledge & experience of working in with a broad technology base & delivering high business value.
Knowledge & an active interest in the connected home market, especially in energy management, renewable energy, home automation
Understanding of service‐based business models & delivery of new services through a SaaS architecture
Results orientated & customer focused
